Note that Stafford Loans disbursed after 7/1/06 come with a fixed interest rate of 6.8%. Subsidized Stafford Loans for undergraduate students disbursed on or after 7/1/08 come with a reduced fixed rate of 6.0%. The fixed rate is 5.6% if disbursed on or after 7/1/09; 4.5% if disbursed on or after 7/1/10; 3.4% if disbursed on or after 7/1/11; 6.8% if disbursed on or after 7/1/12. Stafford Loans disbursed prior to 7/1/06 come with a variable interest rate that is adjusted annually each July 1. Interest rate changes, payment schedules, periods of deferments and forbearance, as well as other factors may affect the length of your repayment period and your monthly payment amount.
